MowatLabs – Excellence in Paediatric Research

Thanks to a group of generous philanthropists, in 2016 we realised a long-held ambition to create a state-of-the-art paediatric research facility at King’s College Hospital, enabled by gifts that totalled over £1.25million. The MowatLabs were named after Professor Alex Mowat, a pioneering Consultant Paediatrician and Paediatric Hepatologist at King’s College Hospital, to help continue his life’s work and legacy.

The MowatLabs bring together a critical mass of clinicians, researchers, nurses, surgeons and transplant specialists, in a collaborative research environment, strengthening the quality and output of research predominantly for children’s liver disease, but also for research into children’s respiratory medicine, gastroenterology, and sickle cell disease.

The laboratories provide the best possible working environment to coordinate and advance research into childhood diseases. Read more about the impact of the MowatLabs here and also for more regular updates, please join our facebook group - https://www.facebook.com/mowatlabs/

Increasing quality youth social action opportunities

King’s is a centre of excellence and innovation for volunteering with a team of 600 volunteers and has pledged to the #iwill campaign for many years. With support from the Pears Foundation we are developing a two year youth volunteering programme that will help 70 young people to develop skills for work and for life while providing valuable support to hospital staff and patients.

“We are delighted to be working with the Pears Foundation on this exciting project to develop a bespoke youth volunteering programme to harness the potential of young people and develop our culture of volunteering.”

- Petula Storey, Head of Volunteering
